I was wondering if anyone out there has been able to get HB 3 to work.  I can get the background music going as well as the sound effects, but when I try to use the announcer option, everything freezes up....  What is the proper SBOS option to select?  Or is it possible to get this to work at all?  Thanks.

  109. I too built up a midi interface and have been using it successfully with
  110. my keyboard. Regarding the computer lockup problem, I've found that this
  111. occurs whenever:
  112.  
  113. 1. SBOS is resident
  114. 2. There is a signal on the midi in connector
  115.  
  116. If I turn off the keyboard, unplug the midi in connector, or unload sbos
  117. before using the keyboard, everything is fine. I don't think it's a problem
  118. with the interface circuit. It's more likely to be a problem with sbos -
  119. perhaps it isn't handling an interrupt correctly or something.
  120.  
  121. BTW, I built up the interface with the 'ls04 and the opto which has been
  122. posted a couple of places. In my version I subbed a 6N137 opto and used
  123. a 4K7 resistor between pins 6 and 8.I also added a 0.1 uF bypass capacitor
  124. between pins 5 and 8 as recommended in the data sheet. Just another
  125. variation for your files :-)

  137.     I've just tried out the new 1.22 disks, and I've noticed that the new
  138. PLAYMIDI (3.50) will hang in the middle of some MIDI files.  I can hit a key
  139. and exit to DOS prompt, but if I try PLAYMIDI again it will often lock up my
  140. system tight.  But this only happens with some MIDI files; for example
  141. BRWNJUG.MIDI and NUTCRACK.MID (from MIDISNGS.ZIP on archive.epas.toronto.edu).
  142. PLAYMIDI 3.40 also seems to have the same problem.  Before I tried the 1.22
  143. disks, I have never had any problems with PLAYMIDI or SBOS.  I have also tried
  144. DARETRO, GUSMOD, and P669GU0 without any problems.
  145.  
  146.     My setup is a 1 MB GUS in a 486/33 system with the OPTi-486SXWB
  147. chipset.  I have heard of some OPTi chipsets having a faulty DMA controller,
  148. but the DMA controller chip on my motherboard (what would normally be the
  149. 82C206 chip) is actually an F85C206 chip made by SiS, so that shouldn't be the
  150. problem here.  And also as I mentioned, I have not have had any problems with
  151. SBOS or anything else.  The GUS settings are the standard choices except that
  152. I'm using DMA channel 5 and interrupt 2 for SBOS.
  153.  
  154.     The last important information is that I am running my bus at 11 MHz.
  155. I found that if I lower the bus speed to 8.25 MHz, then PLAYMIDI 3.40 and 3.50
  156. both work fine.  Maybe some change between PLAYMIDI 3.21 and 3.40 has made the
  157. timing tolerance too tight?
  158.

  160. Of course, an OS/2 driver would be much appreciated, too!  (hint :-) )
